Ellis Island is the subject of a photography exhibit at the National Building Museum in Washington. The images by Larry Racioppo focus on the decaying buildings of the monument’s hospital complex, rather than the newly restored main immigrant building. About 10 percent of the 12 million immigrants who came through Ellis Island were detained at the hospital before they were admitted into the United States.
