Finance Minister Yigal Cohen-Orgad has extended until Tuesday the deadline for each ministry to submit proposed budget cuts that will amount to a nine percent across-the-board reduction of government expenditures. The proposals were to have been in the hands of the Ministerial Economic Committee last Friday. The key issue is the defense budget. Treasury sources said Sunday that if the Defense Ministry makes meaningful cuts, the other ministries would have to follow through.
