Former French Premier Robert Schumann told newsmen here today that the “skies of Israel-French friendship are clear of any clouds.” He made the statement after he crossed into Israel through the Mandelbaum Gate with a party of nearly 300 Catholic pilgrims for a three-day visit to various shrines and historical sites.

M. Schumann told newsmen of his close cooperation with Israel Prime Minister Moshe Sharett in United Nations deliberations before the establishment of the State of Israel. He added that he was still very much interested in Jewish-Christian cooperation and was particularly interested in modern Israel.

Knesset Speaker Yosef Sprinzak tendered a luncheon today in honor of Belgian leader Camille Huysmans. The luncheon, which was attended by members of the Cabinet, Knesset and Foreign Office, heard Mr. Sprinzak pay tribute to M. Huysmans for his devotion to Zionism and his efforts on behalf of Israel. In his reply, the Belgian statesman hailed Zionism’s human achievements and pledged his continued assistance.
