West German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard today denounced the incident of last month in which a building of the Jewish Community Center in Berlin was burned by arsonists.
Replying to a letter from the Central Council of Jews in Germany, complaining about the incident, the Chancellor assured the Council that all Germans of goodwill also denounce the arson and react with horror to such deeds.
In Bad Hersseld, meanwhile, four 19-year-old Germans were arrested today for painting swastikas and Nazi slogans in various places of the town in May and June. The youths, who confessed to the vandalism, said that they did it in order “to test the reaction of the population.”
