German Prosecutor Refuses to Indict Anti-jewish Propagandist

The district attorney here has refused to indict a Jew-baiting pamphleteer, against whom a criminal complaint had been filed by the Hamburg Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation. The district attorney argues that such agitation is not covered by the legal definition of “incitement to violence” or “incitement to violate existing laws.”

The pamphleteer, Arthur Goetze, blames “Jewish high finance” for the rise of Hitler. He quotes Mathilde Ludendorff, widow of the Field Marshal who led the German armies in World War I and founder of a neo-pagan cult which considers Hitler and the Nazis too moderate and restrained on the Jewish question. Although a Indemnification court barred Mrs. Ludendorff from, writing for publication, she regularly issues her fanatically anti-Jewish magazine–with her son-in-law listed as editor–and disseminates “letters to the editor” she has addressed to the Argentine Nazi publication “Dar Weg.”
