Harold Silver Director of Detroit Jewish Social Service Bureau

Harold Silver of Cincinnati was elected executive director of the Jewish Social Service Bureau. Mr. Silver succeeds Mrs. Rose M. Lipson, who resigned after serving as the bureau’s director for 12 years.

Mr. Silver served as superintendent of the case work United Jewish Social Agencies of Cincinnati since 1927, as assistant to Kurt Peiser, who recently resigned as executive director of the Cincinnati Social Agencies to become director of the Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit. The Jewish Social Service Bureau is an affiliate of the Federation.

Mr. Silver is a graduate of the University of Chicago and of the Graduate School for Jewish Social Work in New York. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Association of Social Workers, and the National Conference of Jewish Social Service. He has been affiliated with Jewish social work continuously since his graduation from college in 1922. He served as manager of the Chicago office of the Peoples Relief Committee, one of the three national agencies composing the Joint Distribution Committee; as staff member of the Bureau of Jewish Social Research on the survey of Greater New York; and as head of the department of special service of the Jewish Welfare Society of Philadelphia, resigning from that position to go to Cincinnati.

Emmanuel Orich and Victor Graber, two young Jews from Poland, have just reached Jerusalem by bicycle after having traversed a distance of 5,000 kilometres. They started out for Palestine in May from Cracow, and did the entire trip on their bicycles, passing Roumania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Turkey and Syria.
