Hebrew University Opens Hygiene Department

A department for the study of hygiene will be established at the Hebrew University, according to an agreement concluded between the Board of Directors of the University and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. The department will be opened on April 1, and will be directed by Dr. I. J. Kligler, Dr. Kligler will continue to serve in an advisory capacity in the governmental malaria research unit, which is financed by the Joint Distribution Committee. These arrangements were concluded by Mr. Bernard Flexner, president of the Palestine Economic Corporation.

In an interview with the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Mr. Flexner declared that during his stay in Palestine he discussed with Mr. Pinchas Ruttenberg, head of the Palestine Electrical Works, the question of the Palestine Economic Corporation’s participation in the completion of the hydroelectric project. The construction of a hydroelectric station on the Jordan is contemplated. The subject will be discussed again in London in April.

Mr. Flexner also renewed the agreement with the Palestine government for the continuation of the malaria research unit and renewed arrangements with Mr. Mohr, manager of the Loan Bank and Mr. Vitales, manager of the Central Cooperative Bank.
