The Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society has been granted permission by the Department of Justice to extend its corporate affidavit to cover displaced persons living in Shanghai, it was announced yesterday by Samuel A. Telsey, president of the organization.
The corporate affidavit, heretofore used to guarantee to the U.S. Government that displaced persons from Germany and Austria will not become public charges when they reach the U.S., will be extended by HIAS to cover 2,000 war victims stranded in China, the announcement said.
Mr. Telsey also announced that a representative of the Autralian Government has been making a study of displaced Jews in Shanghai who are registered for emigration, and whose papers wre submitted last Summer to the Australian Government by HIAS for possible entry permits.
