The Histadrut executive last night urged “loyal members” of the Israeli Labor Federation “who believe in the Socialist-Zionist mission” not to participate in the one-day strike called for tomorrow by Mapam and Communist workers committees as a protest against the government’s new economic policy.
The Histadrut executive’s plea was contained in a statement issued here which charged the leftists with endangering Histadrut unity and acting against the interests of the labor group. The statement insisted that the strike was the most important weapon in labor’s arsenal and must only be used at the discretion of the Histadrut. It also said that the economic policy at which the Thursday demonstration is aimed, is a plan for the economic recovery of the Jewish state.
