Reports that Palestinian Jewish labor leaders now in London have made statements on behalf of the Labor candidate in the Whitechapel by-election have created great excitement in Jewish labor circles here, the Doar Hayom reports, adding that many members of the Federation of Jewish Labor are prepared to leave the Federation because of the action of their leaders.
The Haaretz says it has received many open letters from members of the Federation protesting against their leaders’ action in connection with the Whitechapel election. The letters have not been published, the Haaretz explains, out of respect for the Federation.
The Federation’s view on the matter is prominently displayed in the Davar. The Federation’s statement points out that Federation delegates in London as well as the Poale Zion decided to strengthen the pro-Zionist group in the British Labor Party because hostility by the Labor M. P.s would be of no profit to Zionism. The decision to assist the Labor candidate in Whitechapel was taken after he had agreed to oppose the White Paper and after Bevin, leader of the Transport Workers Union, had given a similar promise on behalf of 26 Labor members of Parliament.
