Hundreds of Christian leaders throughout the area were urged to protest the mistreatment of Israeli prisoners of war by Syria in a letter from Leon Dunn, chairman of the Jewish Community Council’s Crisis Committee, and Rabbi Murray I, Rothman, chairman of the Interfaith Committee of the Council, The religious leaders were asked to circulate petitions to be sent to the United Nations, International Red Cross and U.S. government officials, They also received specific information on the Third Geneva Convention which deals with the treatment of prisoners of war and was signed by the Syrian government in 1949.
