Illinois state Rep. Jan Schakowsky defeated two Jewish opponents in a Democratic primary for the state’s 9th Congressional District. Schakowsky, an activist for consumer and women’s issues, is expected to be elected in November to what has been called a “Jewish seat” in the U.S. House of Representatives.
