The Danish freighter, the Inge Toft, was scheduled to ‘leave-Port Said today, after completing the unloading of its Israel cargo, to end an eight-month detention in the newest victory for the United Arab Republic in its fight to bar Israel from the Suez Canal, a report from Cairo said.
The ship’s agents were notified by the vessel’s owners to unload the cargo, which was promptly confiscated by the UAR authorities. The cargo included 1,500 tons of potash, ten tons of copper and 4,000 tons of cement, most of it loaded in Haifa and consigned to Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines. The ship was halted at Port Said last May 21 and detained when its captain declined to yield his cargo.
