Israel launched its 50th anniversary celebrations at a tree-planting ceremony marking Tu B’Shevat, the new year for trees. In the Knesset, legislators took a break from their usual debates to mark the parliament’s 49th birthday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told those assembled that he expected Israel to sign another peace treaty during the Knesset’s current session.
