Israel may keep a military foothold inside the Gaza Strip following any evacuation of settlements. Ha’aretz reported Wednesday that Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz has proposed keeping a garrison in the area of Gush Katif, a beach-side Jewish town in Gaza, should Israel go ahead with a plan to remove residents from almost all Gaza settlements.
