Israel named a new national police chief. Internal Security Minister Avi Dicther this week said he wants Commander Dudi Cohen, chief of Central District Police, to take over from Inspector-General Moshe Karadi. The nomination awaits government approval. Karadi tendered his resignation in February after being implicated in a corruption scandal that stoked public calls for a purge of the police’s upper ranks. According to the Israeli media, Dichter failed in his efforts to woo several retired army generals to take the top police job.
