Israel raised the number of permits granted to Palestinians allowed to enter Israel for work. In addition to increasing this number from 26,000 to 31,000, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak also raised to 5,000 the number of Palestinian merchants granted permission to travel from the Gaza Strip to the West Bank.
