Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat on Monday of attempting to swing Israeli Arab votes in Israel’s upcoming election to his main challenger, Labor’s Ehud Barak. Netanyahu said the Palestinian leader was trying to convince Israel’s first Arab candidate for premier, Azmi Beshara, to drop out of the race to increase Barak’s percentage of the Arab vote.
