Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak dismissed talk of early elections, even after his foreign minister resigned and the Knesset began the process of dissolving itself. Speaking after legislators gave preliminary approval to a bill calling for new elections, Barak said that in the coming three months of parliamentary recess, he would work to rebuild the coalition and pursue peace with the Palestinians.
