Israel’s domestic security chief ordered new screening equipment installed at Ben Gurion Airport to reduce selective “profiling” of Arab passengers. Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin announced the plan Wednesday after meeting with Nadia Hilou, an Israeli Arab lawmaker who has complained that Arabs are singled out for extra scrutiny during airport security checks. A pilot version of the new system, which the Shin Bet refused to discuss in detail, is expected to be installed at Ben Gurion this summer. It will allow for quick and comprehensive screening of all passengers, drastically reducing the need for face-to-face questioning and searches, Diskin said.
