Israel’s Knesset gave preliminary approval to a bill that would cancel the current law that provides for the direct election of the prime minister. One of the sponsors of the bill, Meretz legislator Naomi Hazan, said recent events have proven that the current electoral system gives far too much political power to the smaller parties.
