Israel’s prime minister called on workers at Israeli ports to return to their jobs. Ariel Sharon’s call came Tuesday as a public sector strike threatened to paralyze the country. The action was declared to protest cuts in the 2004 budget. Government ministries have suspended services and customs officials at Ben-Gurion Airport are causing massive backlogs by insisting on checking the baggage of all arriving passengers.
