A sharp drop in the tuberculosis death rate Israel was reported here today. Israel’s rate is now among the world’s lowest during 1955 dropped to 7.4 per 100,000.
The tuberculosis death rates among youths showed an even more spectacular decrease, having dropped from 13.4 per 100,000 in 1949 to 1.2 per 100,000 in 1955. The incidence of the disease is constantly decreasing, it was reported. Preventive measures adopted during 1955 included the giving of more than 100,000 X-ray examinations, some 150,000 tuberculin examinations and widespread inoculations, including those given to infants three days after birth.
