Sen. Richard L. Neuberger, Oregon Democrat, who is a frequent speaker on the platforms of Zionist and Jewish groups, today commented favorably in the Senate on the participation of American mayors in a goodwill tour to Beirut, Lebanon, “to cement relations with the strategic Middle East and the people of Lebanon.”

The Senator referred to a trip by the Mayors of seven U.S. cities all named Lebanon to the Arab League state of Lebanon as guests of that government to receive Lebanon’s Gold Medal from President Camille Chamoun. The trip was envisaged by Lebanon as a subtle propaganda move to solicit support for Lebanon and simultaneously agitate against Zionism by orienting the American mayors with anti-Israel propaganda. Sen. Neuberger made no mention of the propaganda aspects of the trip.
