The Standing Conference of European Jewish Community Services has formally constituted itself as an official council representing the central were fare organizations of Jewish communities of Europe, it was announced here today.
The announcement was made by Dr. Astorre Mayer, chairman of the Standing Conference. He said that the action was made effective with adoption of by-laws and acceptance of a budget to be met by contributions from member organizations. The decision was vote at a meeting of the group in Paris last weekend. The Paris meeting was attended by representatives from Belgium, France, West Germany, Greece, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and Britain.
The action culminated a period of development started in 1960 when the Standing Conference was created with financial and technical help from the Joint Distribution Committee Its purpose was to serve as an inter-European forum for discussion by Jewish welfare officials of common problems in health, welfare and educational services, building projects and fund-raising.
