“If there is any danger to the present order in Austria, it is far worse for the Jews of Austria,” ex-Deputy Robert Stricker, editor of the “Neue Welt” here, writes in a recent issue of his weekly. “Any violent upheaval would be accompanied by anti-Semitic excesses, and any breakdown of social and economic relations would hit the Jews worst of all. It is necessary, therefore,” he writes, “for the Jews to rally round the present prime minister, Herr Johann Schober, and to help him to save the situation. It is not the first time that the Jews have to thank this man for saving them. His many years of work as Police President and as Premier have always been marked by sincere goodwill towards the Jews. Immediately after the Revolution, it was he who put a stop to the anti-Semitic tendencies which were beginning to gain the upper hand, in consequence of the Hakenkreuzler agitation. We must never forget his energetic activity against the threatened violence at the time of the Zionist Congress in Vienna in 1925.

“The Jews must stand by Schober,” Herr Stricker urges, and “I have every hope that the new Constitution which he is providing for Austria will satisfy also the justified demands of the Jews, especially in respect to Jewish representation in the Legislative Assembly, and the protection of Jewish honor and security.”
