Latvia approved an extradition treaty with Australia. The move could pave the way for bringing suspected Nazi war criminal Konrad Kalejs back to Latvia for trial. Australia approved the treaty last week. Kalejs allegedly served as an officer in Latvia’s notorious Arajs Kommando unit, which is held responsible for the deaths of some 100,000 civilians, including 30,000 Jews, between 1941 and 1943.
