Leaders of World Jewish Congress branches in Canada, the United States and Mexico are convening a regional conference in Mexico City. The two-day gathering, under the auspices of the North American Jewish Congress, begins Monday. U.S. Anti-Semitism envoy Gregg Rickman will address the opening session, followed by a community luncheon hosted by Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard. Working sessions will include an interreligious panel with the archbishop of Mexico City and a leader of the United Church of Canada. The NAJC is chaired by Evelyn Sommer, and the WJC American Section is chaired by Rabbi Marc Schneier. Secretary-General Stephen Herbits will lead the World Jewish Congress delegation, which also will include young community leaders from South America, Mexico, the United States and Canada.
