The city council today adopted a motion requesting the executive to take the necessary steps to insert a clause in the by-laws of the city’s charter obliging contractors on city works to employ only Canadian citizens. The motion was strongly attacked by Alderman Joseph Schubert who pointed out that it would affect between 20,000 and 25,000 people who are not yet naturalized.

The motion, which is now in the hands of the executive committee, was termed “inhuman” by Alderman Schubert.
