Moshe Katsav was sworn in as Israel’s eighth president during a ceremony in the Knesset. During his inaugural speech, Katsav made an appeal for tolerance and national unity. After he took the oath of office, an honor guard blew on rams’ horns and legislators called out, “Long live the new president.”
