Most Jewish leaders were non-committal when asked today to comment on the Chamberlain colonization proposals. Charles J. Liebman, president of the Refugee Economic Corporation declared it was “heartening to realize that the plight of refugees commands the attention of men of good will throughout the world.” The Jewish Morning Journal expressed disappointment with the proposals, declaring that if it were only a question of restricted immigration Great Britain might just as well have opened Palestine wider.
