Refugees arriving here from Austria said today that the position of the Austrian Jews has become hopeless under intensified Nazi persecution.

They asserted that Vienna Jews, whose number has been reduced to 53,000 from the pre-Anschluss figure of 180,000, were not permitted on the streets after 6.30 p.m.

Only two Jews were reported left in the Upper Austrian capital of Graz. One of them is a doctor who is said to have treated Chancellor Adolf Hitler when he was a child. There are no more than 150 Jews left in all provincial towns throughout Austria, the refugees said.
