New Austrian Cabinet Not Likely to Have Anti-semites

The next Austrian cabinet, when formed, will not include anti-Semitic ministers, it is predicted today in view of former chancellor Schober’s declination of an offer of the Christian Socialists to join in a coalition with the Heimwehr. This refusal removes for the present the danger of a continuation of the policy by means of which Heimwehr cabinet officers conducted anti-Semitic propaganda on the plea that, while as ministers they were not entitled to do so, as private citizens they were permitted.

Such explanations were recently given by Franz Hueber, minister of justice and Prince Starhemberg, minister of the interior. All efforts by the Christian Socialists to influence Schober to agree to the inclusion of at least one Heimwehrist in the coalition cabinet being formed have thus far been unsuccessful.
