Climaxing a political career of 35 years, Arthur Seligman, scion of a Jewish family prominent in this state for two generations, was yesterday elected governor of New Mexico on the Democratic ticket. Head of Seligman Bros. department store and prominent in state banking affairs, Mr. Seligman is active in state-wide Jewish circles.
Long before New Mexico was admitted to the Union in 1912 Mr. Seligman was a prominent political leader. He has been chairman of the Sante Fe county commissioners, mayor of Santa Fe, the state capital, chairman of the Democratic county committee, head of the territorial Democratic committee, member of the Democratic National Committee and a delegate to the Democratic national conventions of 1916, 1920, 1924 and 1928.
