Non-confidence Vote Creates Crisis in Jerusalem Municipality

The Israel Cabinet appointed Premier Moshe Sharett last night to head a Ministerial committee to investigate a crisis in the Jerusalem municipality. A second committee, headed by Justice Minister Pinchas Rosen, will study the constitutional aspects of the crisis.

The situation developed when the General Zionists and Mapai members of the municipal council voted non-confidence in Abzaham Kariv, Mizrachi Mayor of Jerusalem, thus ending the coalition which has been operating the city administration. A special election may be necessary to name a new municipal council or a new commission may be appointed by the national government.
