Assurance that the Jews of Poland would not be treated unjustly was given by Marshal Josef Pilsudski, aged dictator of the republic, addressing a reception in his honor on his arrival at Wilno. Marshal Pilsudski’s assurances were voiced after he had been informed that the Warsaw authorities proposed to close down the Jewish Hospital.
The Jewish community has been deeply troubled by events centeri#around the hospital following a raid on the institution by the police on the pretext of searching for communist propaganda. The Jewish director of the hospital was ordered replaced by a candidate named by the authorities. Indignation was manifested when the authorities named a physician converted from Judaism to the hospital post.
Strong police guards patrolled the Jewish districts of Warsaw last night following reports that the Endeks, the National Democrats, the anti-Semitic anti-governmental party, had planned to attack the districts. No disorders were reported today as result.
