A central scholarship and educational loan referral service for the Pittsburgh Jewish community has been developed by the United Jewish Federation, it was announced here by Alvin Rogal, Federation president.
The program, which will be operated by the Vocational Rehabilitation Center of Allegheny County, involves a central intake, public information and a referral service for eligible youth. According to the program, students in need of scholarships, loans or both will be referred to an organization which may help them.
Initially, three community organizations will participate in the program: the National Council of Jewish Women, the Hebrew Free Loan Association and the YM-YWHA – Irene Kaufmann Centers. The central intake service has been designed to: provide a comprehensive screening of all applicants for financial aid; provide applicants with information concerning the availability of financial aid and referral of those resources which can best meet their needs; and provide full information to each of the participating organizations.
