President Chaim Herzog and his wife, Ora, received a very warm welcome Wednesday when they arrived at Kinshasa, Zaire, the first Black African nation to restore diplomatic ties with Israel after breaking them during the Yom Kippur War. Herzog, on his first African tour since taking office, will also visit Liberia. Israeli reporters accompanying the Presidential party, said the road from Kinshasa airport to President Mobutu Sese Seko’s residence was lined with thousands of people waving Israeli flags. The government daily, Elima, called Herzog’s visit “the consecration of renewed friendship between Zaire and Israel.”
