President Ben-Zvi granted amnesty today to Prof. Kurt Sitte, a non-Jew who was found guilty of contact with foreign agents and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at the end of 1960.
A noted scientist in Czechoslovakia, Dr. Sitte came to Israel and Joined the faculty of the Israel Institute of Technology at Haifa.
In granting amnesty, President Ben-Zvi acted on the recommendations of scientists in Israel and abroad. Dr. Sitte had been scheduled for release in October for good behavior. He is now expected to be released next Sunday.
