President Truman said at his press conference today that he has referred to the State Department the matter of the joint protest on British arms shipments to the Arab states submitted to him last week by the American Federation of Labor and the C.I.O.
The State Department’s reaction was indicated late yesterday when Secretary of State Dean Acheson said that he has replied to A.F.L. president William Green’s letter. The Secretary said he reiterated the same sentiments contained in his letter to Rep. Jacob K. Javits. He indicated he still feels it is desirable for the Arabs to receive arms shipments and does not believe there is serious danger of renewed hostilities involving Israel.
