The public schools of greater New York will be closed next Thursday the first day of Passover. The regular Easter vacation of the public schools would ordinarily begin on Friday, April 6, and end on Monday, April 9.

Following representations made by Rabbi Bernard Drachman, honorary president, and Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, president, of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, to President Ryan, Vice-President Stern and Dr. O’Shea of the Board of Education, it was decided to close the schools on Thursday, the vacation beginning with the end of the school day on Wednesday. The decision applies to both the day and night sessions.

This is the first time in the history of city that such an order was issued, enabling the Jewish children to observe Passover without absence from school.
