Leaders of religious groups in Israel, meeting last night in an urgent session in the office of Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog, unanimously voted opposition to Government plans for introduction of a uniform education system in Israel and demanded that the present system of separate educational trends be left in force.
Prof. Ben Zion Dinaburg, the Minister of Education, had disclosed plans for introduction in the Fall term of a unified basic curriculum. Israel has four different school systems.
Those attending the session last night included Chief Rabbis Herzog and Ben-Zion Uziel, Minister of Welfare I.M. Lewin, Minister of Religious Affairs Moshe Shapira, Minister of Communications David Zvi Pinkas, Rabbi Kalman Kahane, director of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Benjamin Mintz, Agudas Workers leader.
