Reports published in Lebanese papers indicate that Russia has begun supplying Syria with Russian-made SAM-2 missiles batteries. Israeli political observers have suggested that this new arrangement may have resulted from Syrian leader General Hafez Assad’s recent trip to Moscow. According to the reports, Russia has also supplied the Syrians with SAM-3s, but Israeli political circles expressed doubts as to the veracity of this statement.
