The Union of Orthodox Jews of Poland today announced plans for the restoration of synagogues and Jewish cemeteries in various parts of the country where Jewish survivers have returned for permanent residence.
The Union has begun restoring the Cracow cemetery which was desecrated and denclished by the Germans. It is also making preparations for repairing the ancient synagogue in Kazimierz which is more than 600 years old.
More than fifty rare Hebrew manuscripts written in the 16th and 17th centuries have been discovered in a village near Lwow, the Warsaw radio reported today. It is believed that they are part of the library of the Lwow Jewish Community which was plundered by the Germans. Soviet authorities in Lwow are arranging for the transfer of the manuscripts to Poland where they will be placed in the care of the Central Jewish Committee, the broadcast said.
