A royal fortress of King Solomon which commanded the highway from the Judean desert to the Negev and Eilat, has been unearthed at Tel Arad where a new development center for the Negev is being constructed, it was disclosed here today by the Archeology department of the Hebrew University which conducted the excavations. The new find is expected to shed light on events in the period some 2,800 years ago when King Solomon broke the Egyptian monopoly on transport over the international trading route. The objects found in the excavation are in an excellent state of preservation due to the dry climate in the area.
