Rudy Giuliani appealed to Jewish donors by saying he would be tougher than Democrats on Islamic terrorism. “In the 1990s we had the blinders on with regard to Islamic terrorism,” the former New York mayor and Republican presidential candidate writes in the appeal, sent to the Jerusalem Post’s online subscriber list. “Coddling terrorists — even applauding for winning the Nobel Peace Prize as was done with Yasser Arafat — is a policy we cannot return to.” Giuliani famously ousted Arafat from a concert when the Palestinian leader was in New York at a time when Arafat often visited the United States as a guest of the Clinton administration. “Yet these blinders are still worn by some people who wish to lead this country,” Giuliani says, emphasizing his record of “staunch” support for the Jewish state.
