Pinchas Rutenberg noted industrialist, yesterday resigned as president of the Jewish National Council (Vaad Leumi) with a warning that the party system made “effective management” of the Council impossible.
In a letter to Chairman Isaac Ben Zvi Rutenberg conveyed his thanks to the Council for its confidence in him and added: “For ten months I tried to unite the Jewish community but failed. Only unity and self-sacrifice of party interests to the nation’s benefit can help us cope with a grave situation.”
