President Anwar Sadat of Egypt said in an interview published today in Le Figaro that he was ready to accept an international force at Sharm el-Sheikh but not throughout the Sinal Peninsula. He added that Egypt would not accept the demilitarization of the Sinai “unless a similar demilitarized zone is created on the other side of the border, in Israel,” Sadat repeated that Egypt was “ready to conclude peace with Israel” on condition that “all the (occupied) territories be returned,” but cautioned that even then there could not be a lasting peace “unless the Palestinian issue is solved.” The interview was also broadcast last night over French television.
