The American people will support Israel in its determination to be a free nation despite the “general uncooperative attitude now prevailing” in the State Department. Sen. Wayne Morse of Oregon told a meeting of the North Central Region of the United Jewish Appeal. Some 300 Jewish community leaders from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Western Wisconsin attended the parley.

The support given by Americans–both Jewish and non-Jewish–to Israel had had a “very salutary effect upon American policy in the Middle East, “Sen. Morse stressed. The conference also heard Rabbi Charles Schulman of New York review the work of the UJA beneficiary agencies and outline their financial needs.
