Chairman Theodore F. Green of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee urged today that the Administration adopt a friendlier attitude toward the United Arab Republic and try to “get along” with President Nasser. He suggested that the United States provide economic aid to the UAR to replace assistance furnished by the Soviet bloc.
Speaking before the 11th annual conference of the Association of International Relations Clubs, Sen. Green said Col. Nasser may be responsive to friendly overtures from America. He added the United States has “no real Middle East policy at all.” He said it has not prevented or “even impeded the communist economic offensive in the Middle East.”
